How To Determine If You Are Experiencing A Panic Attack By Examining The Symptoms You Are Having
When you're in some job paths it is hard to separate yourself from work since people like to request advice. This is something which I experience very often because I am a social worker. When individuals find this out they like to ask my opinion about what they should do about different circumstances, generally involving one of their neighbors or relatives. This can grow inconvenient, but being in a service profession this is part of the job. Many people don't know where to turn to access services for mental health needs, consequently they find it easier to ask someone they know how to do this.
The majority of the affiliates of our church know that I am a social worker. We had an occurrence that happened during a church function that called for my knowledge. We were gathered in our fellowship area for a potluck supper one Sunday evening. One of the church members was sitting off by themselves. I have talked with her at other events and she has shared with me that she has problems with anxiety. When I saw her I noticed that her skin texture was flushed and she seemed to be having a challenging time controlling her breathing. I saw the early symptoms of an anxiety assault. I knew that they would worsen rather rapidly. I quietly asked our minister if he would open his office. I went over to the woman and asked her to come into the minister's office with me. When we were walking towards the office she told me that she was feeling sharp chest pains. She does not have a history of cardiac disease so I figured that the pains were yet another of the symptoms of an anxiety assault. After we were inside the office I had her focus on doing some deep breathing routines with me. I calmly rubbed her hands and kept repeating the directives for the breathing that I was doing with her. She had once been heavily sweating so I opened a window, although it was quite cold outside. The cold air together with the deep breathing began to calm her. She admitted that she had been quite anxious over the past couple of days and that she had not taken her medicine that day. As we talked the majority of the symptoms of the apprehension assault went away.
Our church is very near a hospital and I asked her if she wanted to be checked there to ensure that the chest pains had been part of the apprehension. She informed me that she was certain they were and that if she had just a couple more moments to calm herself she believed she would be able to leave for home. I told her that nobody in the gathering had observed our departure because they were conversing and having hor d'ouevres. She agreed to join me in the party with the promise that I would bring her home the minute she asked. She ended up staying for most of the evening. She informed me when I drove her home that if she had been alone she would have called an ambulance due to the fact that she thought the symptoms of the anxiety assault were a heart assault instead. I told her that this was a widespread error and that she needed to be more aware of how her anxiety impacts her.
