A Young Man's Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking Results In A DUI And Time Locked Up In Jail
Richard had an exceedingly difficult time maintaining a job. In truth, due to his lassitude and lack of motivation, he was out of a job far more frequently than he was employed with a job. And when he did land a job, he had an exceedingly difficult time getting to work when his shift started, he often received less than satisfactory performance appraisals, and he called off sick so many times that he commonly got fired just a few weeks after he started working.
Obviously, one of the consequences of Richard's awful employment track record was the fact that he was without much money on a day-to-day basis. In spite of Richard's less than acceptable work track record and financial misbehavior, conversely, one way or another he made it a point to drink in a hazardous manner on a day-to-day basis.
So it came as no big surprise when Richard got a third DWI. When he went to court, the magistrate told Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was awful and, consequently, he was going to sentence Richard to serve six months locked up in jail.
During his time in the municipal jail, Richard was required to learn more about alcohol abuse facts such as alcohol consequences and alcohol deaths, about the injurious outcomes of excessive drinking, and he was required to get alcohol therapy. The judge accentuated the fact that unless Richard receives quality alcohol treatment and learns how to live an alcohol-free life, he will probably be spending a considerable amount of time incarcerated in jail.
Richard said that he understood what the magistrate was declaring but he still claimed that incarceration was not the most logical punishment. The magistrate thought otherwise and asserted that it was his obligation to keep alcohol dependent individuals off the streets who drink and drive and who get one or more DUIs. To substantiate this statement, the judge articulated some respected, extensively researched alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that stressed some of the unhealthy effects that are related to excessive drinking such as alcohol related deaths.
Even though Richard grasped the fact that he drank in a hazardous manner, he never felt that he was a person who was addicted to alcohol. So it was a real bombshell when Richard began experiencing chronic alcoholism symptoms and signs and alcohol withdrawal symptoms just about three hours after getting placed behind bars.
To monitor his symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a safe and sound manner, Richard was life flighted to an alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detoxification and then returned to the city jail. While behind bars Richard got alcohol rehab but since he got this therapy as something that was imposed upon him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his excessive and abusive drinking.
When his time in the county jail was completed, the judge without hesitation told Richard that he would be under rigorous scrutiny and would be mandated to take random urine alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his drinking problem and how he unenthusiastically followed the rehab procedures while behind bars, the magistrate knew that it was just a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his hazardous and abusive drinking behavior.
As the judge thought about Richard's situation, he couldn't help but think about how some individuals never "get it" and learn how to live in an accountable and productive manner.
