A Young Lady Quits Drinking, Suffers From Alcohol Withdrawal Symptoms, And Makes Up Her Mind To Get Alcohol Treatment


Kayla is a thirty-seven-year-old accounts receivable clerk who has been ingesting alcohol in a hazardous manner since she and her boyfriend broke up. In fact, for the past three months she has been drinking almost one-and-a-half bottles of wine every night, and on the weekends she also has been drinking more than a few wine coolers all the way through the day. In short Kayla has been drinking so excessively that it's a wonder that she hasn't suffered from alcohol withdrawals when she tried to quit drinking.

After feeling discouraged because she was starting to neglect her health, Kayla at long last told herself that enough is enough, that it's time to quit the self pity routine, that it's time to quit the excessive drinking, and time to move on with her life. So the next Saturday morning at 8:00 AM, she decided to stop drinking completely and suddenly without preparation or planning.

When she called her best girlfriend and informed her that she had quit drinking and that after a few hours she suddenly started to experience flu-like symptoms, Beth, her best friend, told Kayla to call her medical doctor and explain in a clear manner what she was going through.

Her family doctor told her that she may be suffering from alcohol withdrawal symptoms and that she should have someone drive her to the emergency room as soon as possible. Apparently her family doctor had phoned ahead and told the emergency room treatment team to expect Kayla because when she got to the hospital, she was met by two nurses who immediately told her to lie down on the portable bed they had with them.

A doctor gave her some meds to lessen the intensity of her flu-like symptoms and also gave her some drugs to help eliminate the alcohol that was still in her system. After a few hours, Kayla was removed from the emergency room and transported to the recovery room.

After she was in recovery for nearly two hours, Doctor Patterson, an alcohol and drug abuse specialist, came to see her. He took his time and explained that Kayla had experienced alcohol withdrawal symptoms when she quit drinking due to the fact that she had become alcohol dependent.

He then stated that with continuous and heavy drinking, the person's brain gradually adjusts to the alcohol in order to function in a "routine" fashion. When the individual then all at once quits drinking, however, the brain responds by producing alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Not only this, but her healthcare practitioner also went over the different alcoholism symptoms that an alcohol addicted person usually goes through as the disease progresses.

Fortunately for Kayla, it was determined that she was in the earliest stage of alcohol dependency and, consequently, she received a favorable projection for a total recovery if she will get the alcohol treatment she needs.

Kayla told the medical practitioner that she will do whatever it takes to get sober and to regain her life. She also articulated that she has a very comprehensive hospitalization plan that will more likely than not pay for most of the treatment costs. It was apparent that Kayla was very pleased with her encouraging prognosis and felt reassured knowing that she will be able to get the alcohol treatment she needs so that she can start on the path to recovery.
